Rep. Joe Heck Meets with Filipino Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr.
WASHINGTON - As part of his continued work on behalf of the Filipino-American residents of Nevada's Third Congressional District, Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) met with Filipino Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. to discuss issues affecting both the Philippines and the Filipino community in the United States. Ambassador Cuisia thanked Rep. Heck for his strong support of and leadership on awarding benefits to Filipino American veterans. They also discussed the Philippines desire to enter into a preferential trade agreement with the United States, and a bill that would allow for textiles produced in the U.S. and sent to the Philippines to be made in to clothes, to be allowed back in the U.S. Tariff free.
"The Filipino community in southern Nevada continues to make a profound impact on our state and I am proud to represent them in the House of Representatives. My meeting with Ambassador Cuisia was informative and productive and I look forward to working with him in the future on issues that affect Filipino-Americans in district three." - Congressman Joe Heck
Since being elected to Congress, Congressman Heck has been a tireless advocate on behalf of southern Nevada's Filipino community, most notably on working to have the Denied Filipino Veterans recognized and compensated for their service to the United States and the Allied cause during World War II.
