Heck Votes to Extend Tax Holiday to Nevada Workers

Statement of Congressman Joe Heck on Passage of Payroll Tax Cut Conference Report

WASHINGTON - Congressman Joe Heck (R-NV-03) today released the following statement after voting in support of the payroll tax cut conference report which extends the payroll tax holiday for workers. The conference report also continues and reforms the federal unemployment insurance program and prevents a cut in reimbursement rates for physicians who see Medicare patients and veterans.

"Allowing this tax holiday to expire on working families is not good policy, especially while families in Nevada continue to struggle. I am pleased the conference committee produced this legislation to help provide the certainty and stability needed to help kick-start our economy," Rep. Heck said.

Heck continued, "Additionally, the conference report makes much needed reforms to our unemployment insurance program by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse. While I would like to see a longer-term fix for the physician reimbursement formula, this temporary patch helps ensure seniors and veterans have access to the healthcare they need."

"This legislation isn't perfect - but it does show that the House and Senate can actually work together, through the traditional process, to formulate reasonable policy."
