HECK: Some chose party loyalty over American people
Today, Congressman Joe Heck released the following statement regarding the vote on H.J. Res. 2, a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution of the United States:
“Today, the House of Representatives had a historic opportunity to hold Washington accountable and ensure it lives within its means just like families across southern Nevada do every day. Rather than embrace this opportunity, some chose to bow to political pressure from the White House and continue on a reckless path toward bankruptcy. Two of the top three Democrats in the House voted for a balanced budget in 1995, but flipped and voted against it today – Minority Whip Steny Hoyer and Deputy Minority Leader Jim Clyburn. Rather than stand with the 74 percent of Americans who support a balanced budget amendment, they chose to play politics. Today’s vote illustrates that some are more concerned with party loyalty than ensuring growth and prosperity for all Americans.”
