Statement of Congressman Joe Heck on Third Anniversary of "Stimulus" Bill
WASHINGTON - Congressman Joe Heck (R-NV-03) today released the following statement on the third anniversary of President Obama's trillion dollar "stimulus" bill.
"On this date three years ago, President Obama made a promise to the people of southern Nevada and the nation. We were told that if the stimulus bill became law, unemployment would not reach eight percent nationwide. Three years and trillions of borrowed dollars later, Nevada's unemployment rate is at 12.6%, the highest in the country, while the national rate sits at 8.3%. The statistics make clear that the President's policies have failed and they have made our economy worse," Rep. Heck said.
Heck continued,"When I travel around southern Nevada, business leaders and employers tell me that they need certainty out of Washington to have the confidence to start hiring again. Republicans in the House have put forward a plan to spur job creation by reforming the tax code and eliminating regulatory red tape while reducing energy and health care costs. We will continue working to make it cheaper and easier for employers to hire and kick-start this economy."
