Heck Announces Legislation to Reduce Federal Debt

Nov 21, 2011 Issues: Budget, , Economy and Jobs

Today, Congressman Joe Heck (NV-3) released the following statement following the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction’s announcement that a bipartisan agreement would not be offered before the committee’s deadline.

“I am very disappointed that the committee was unable to accomplish its task and that last week’s balanced budget amendment vote failed. While I remained hopeful that both would be successful, I was prepared for a potential failure."

“That is why I submitted legislation last Friday to control Washington's runaway spending and reduce our deficit. H.R. 3494, the Restoring America’s Faith and Trust (RAFT) Act, will restore America’s faith and trust in the economy by reducing Federal spending, reducing the size of the Federal workforce, and liquidating certain property of the Federal Government. This legislation is not a silver bullet, but it will have a positive impact on the battle to reduce our nation’s debt. The American people understand the significant danger our debt poses, and I remain confident that together we will solve this problem.”
