Congressman Heck Statement on Asian American and Pacific Islander Month

May 1, 2013

WASHINGTON - Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) today released the following statement commemorating Asian American and Pacific Islander month.

"Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made a deep and lasting impact on southern Nevada because of their vibrant culture and distinct heritage, and so I am proud to represent them in the House of Representatives. This month commemorates all that they have done and continue to do in making the United States and Nevada better. The AAPI community has made major contributions in fields like travel and tourism, education, technology, and health care and they are a driving force in our continued economic recovery. While they represent many unique backgrounds and perspectives, the AAPI community is unified in what makes them like all Americans - their shared desire to have a better life than their parents and give their children even better opportunities than they had."

"I have been proud to partner with members of the AAPI community in working to finally see the Denied Filipino Veterans recognized for their service to the United States during World War II and to improve the State Department's Visa processing system so that more family members of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders can come visit Las Vegas."

“I extend my best wishes to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders around southern Nevada and hope that this month brings many opportunities for you to celebrate your wonderful culture.”
